How Ed's Upbringing Skews His Relationships.

Ed has a complicated relationship with women. His own mother abandoned him to his abusive father when he was very young, so he has very little experience with any female companionship. He's shown to be easily manipulated by women who show him affection or praise (he is much the same with men, but has closeted this from himself because his father disapproved of gays). Sadly, Ed is also psychotic, and when he feels betrayed or used by someone he's given affection and trust, he gets violent. This isn't a want or don't want, more a warning.

His terrible relationship with his father has left Ed craving male approval. Males with authority, power and confidence can very easily get under Ed's skin with the approval thing. He will not realise flirting or his own reactions as attraction, though Riddler is a shameless flirt. He will take a lot more mistreatment from a man, but can easily end with the same violence (admittedly often with mind games and puzzles) if he feels betrayed.
